SECURITY & DEFENCE

The security and defense industry is of strategic importance in terms of security policy as well as technology and economic policy. The companies play a central role in equipping civil authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS) as well as the German military, Bundeswehr, and thus make an important contribution to protecting citizens in Germany and Europe. It is therefore an industry of national interest. Both branches of industry are closely interlinked and benefit from the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience. The companies in the security and defense industry are part of the German high-tech sector due to their continuously high investments in research and development. They are closely integrated into the value creation structures in Germany and make an important contribution to securing highly qualified employment.

BIG DATA

Big data generally refers to those data sets and structures that typically cannot be captured, saved, analyzed and modified using traditional tools for managing databases. Big data does not necessarily allude to the size of the data, but to the present form. The goal of big data is to collect and organize “unstructured” amounts of data in the first step in order to then make them usable for the company or the customer through analysis. Big data has already led to major changes in the pure IT context. The hope, however, lies in increasing the efficiency of other areas in which previously unused amounts of data can now be evaluated in a targeted manner. These include marketing, trade, logistics and transport as well as healthcare.

BLOCKCHAIN

Blockchain definition and explanation
The blockchain is a new type of technology that makes it possible to store, process, share and manage any type of information in a publicly accessible database. In a continuous list of data records (called blocks) these are linked by means of cryptography. The beginning of any blockchain is the creation block, or rather the genesis block.

The blockchain is an incorruptible digital ledger of economic transactions that can be programmed to capture not just financial transactions but virtually anything of value

E-Health

The term eHealth primarily describes the use of electronic devices and applications with which patient care and treatment should be optimized and improved. In addition, the process flow and administration in clinics, hospitals and health authorities are to be optimized through the increased use of electronic patient files, health cards with photos, cloud-based databases, patient monitoring and doctor information systems. With the help of electronic patient files, which can be called up via tablet, PC or smartphone, direct and quick access to all patient-related data will be possible in the future. In addition to the enormous cost-saving effects and optimization of administrative processes, the aim is to optimize treatment in medical emergencies, as the attending physician has quick access to all relevant patient data. In Germany, on the basis of the so-called eHealth Act, a uniform legal basis for the implementation of a nationwide uniform digital infrastructure for the health system is to be created. In addition to the electronic health card with photo, the main components are also a standardized electronic patient file and a telematics infrastructure with which doctors, clinics, hospitals and health authorities are to be networked with one another.

BIOTECH

Is a collective term for an almost unmanageable variety of processes, products and methods. According to the definition of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), biotechnology is the application of science and technology to living organisms, parts of them, their products or models of them for the purpose of changing living or non-living matter to expand the level of knowledge, to produce goods and for the provision of services.

In other words: The possible uses of biotechnology are not limited to one area, but are very diverse. Biotechnologists research microorganisms, plants, animals and humans, but also the smallest parts such as individual cells or molecules. Biotechnology has been used for a long time. Humans have been using living microorganisms for a long time, for example in the production of beer, wine and bread. Modern biotechnology as it is used today, however, makes targeted use of the methods of molecular biology. The foundations for this were only laid with the growing knowledge of microbiology in the 18th and 19th centuries. For example, through the discovery of the first enzymes as biocatalysts or of bacteria as producers of medicinal substances.
